About The Pharmacy Academy

The Pharmacy Academy provides relevant and interesting CPD modules for pharmacy professionals, whether in the community or hospital setting. Modules cover a range of topics relevant to paediatric medicine, including dental hygiene, eczema, colic and sepsis.

Our academics

Andrea Hilton, BPharm (hons), MSc, PhD, PGCERT, SFHEA, MRPharmS

Andrea is a practicing pharmacist who’s worked in primary care and community pharmacy. She gained a first-class honours undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the University of Bradford in 1999, before completing an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy while working in secondary care. Andrea completed her PhD in 2006 while working on the MRC-funded RESPECT trial.


Shirin Alwash MRPharmS

Shirin is a practising community Pharmacist, Pharmacy manager, Superintendent and ambassador for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. With a specialist interest in paediatrics she appeared in the Boots Mum & Baby advert to encourage a 'Pharmacy First' culture. Shirin also has an active role in training pre-registration pharmacists and writing standard operating procedures for pharmacies.


Simon Carvell, MB ChB, MRCGP

Simon is a GP who qualified from the University of Birmingham in 1994. He’s been a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners since 1999 and is currently a GP partner at Lion Health, a large general practice serving more than 30,000 people in Stourbridge in the West Midlands. Simon has also been a GP trainer and undergraduate tutor for more than 15 years.
